Solar Power System - Home Tips

To make this article interesting, Let's Mix it up a little:

1. Solar Panels, usually on your roof, convert (Free) Sunlight Energy into Electrical Energy.

You can use the electricity produced by your Solar Power System to run your water heater.

2. The amount of energy produced by your Solar Power system is dependant on several factors, some of which are:
Angle of the sunlight to the Solar Panels,
Number of hours of direct sunlight,
Presence of shade.

This renewable energy can also be used to run all the appliances in your Kitchen.

3. These Solar Panels are electrically connected to each other in what is called an Array. This is done to increase the amperage.

This amperage, when properly converted, is useful to run your washer & dryer, (you don't really want to wash your clothes on a rock, do you?) although, weather permitting, I like to dry our clothes on a line out in the backyard.

4. The energy coming from this Solar Panel Array is connected to an Inverter which converts the 12 Volt Direct Current (like you use in your car) into 120 volt Alternating Current that your house needs for all of the energy eating stuff you have in there that makes your life so much more comfortable.

And that A.C. power can run your Computer, your Printer, your Television and the pump that runs the air into (& out of) your Tropical Fish tanks.

5. Unused electricity produced by your Solar Power system can be directed to storage batteries thru a charging controller. This helps to prevent over charging.

The electricity that you did NOT send to the batteries can be used to power your own battery charger for all those expensive little batteries that we all use for so many things, such as toys for the kids, the TV remote, and the radio that is out in the yard for when you are gardening.

Some of the power stored in your Solar Power system batteries can be used at night, when there is no direct sun to power security lights and all the power needs that you have at night such as alarm clocks, that same set of fish tanks and the coffee pot that starts your brew going in the morning.

6. Unused electricity produced by your Solar Power system can ALSO be sent thru your electric meter (called: 'Net Metering') to the electric company and they have to pay you for it! This IS another one of the perks to this whole idea of producing your own power.

Did this article confuse you? Let me summarize: (while adding a little bit more explanation)

  • The sun provides more energy in ONE day than the whole World needs for several YEARS!
  • If we can (and we can) harness this power for our own use, we can totally remove ourselves from the power 'Grid'
  • Free Solar Power from the Sun can be collected and transferred into your home to power all the things you want, need, and desire to make your life as comfortable as possible.
  • This Solar Power system can be built, BY YOU, with the help of a step-by-step guide and can be done for less than $200.00! (Probably over a weekend!)
  • This Solar Power system can be built with materials that you either already have in your shop or can get very quickly and easily, and you can get the kids and friends involved with the project!
